Some History About Lemont
The story of Lemont is as rich and unique as the town itself. Founded in the early 19th century, Lemont's roots run deep, with its past closely linked to the Illinois and Michigan Canal's construction. This historical milestone not only shaped the town's economic landscape but also established Lemont as a crucial player in Illinois' development. Walking through the streets, one can't help but feel a sense of connection to the past, as the well-preserved architecture and landmarks speak volumes of its history.
Restaurants in Downtown Lemont
Here is a list, in no particular order, of excellent restaurants in downtown Lemont. The variety of food is amazing and there is a bite to eat for everyone. Whether you like Italian food, tacos, small bites, sit-down fancy, or casual, there is something for everyone. On most weekends, you will find live music and entertainment at several locations, and everything is just a short walk away!
Digs on Canal
The distinctive logo of Digs on Canal is a German Shorthair Pointer. As hinted in the name, this restaurant sits on canal street. They have a beautiful outdoor area with many seating options as well as live music almost every week. They teamed up with Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria to serve pizza along with their delicious assortment of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and soups.
Matt’s Barbecue
Matts Barbecue is also on Canal Street and has a cozy outdoor area with picnic benches. They have some of the best barbecue in the area. Their food is always fresh and the atmosphere is really amazing, especially with live music on a Friday evening. Stop by to get mouthwatering brisket, burnt ends, pulled pork, ribs, sandwiches and more!
Nex Mex
From their website: “Next-Mex is a fusion of modern twists on traditional Mexican cuisine and Tex Mex. Together the owners combined their vision of modern Mexican cuisine with the traditional recipes that have been handed down through generations to the husband and wife team that run the kitchen.” Fresh ingredients, tacos, and cocktails. What else could you ask for?
La Dolce Vita
La Dolce Vita offers an unforgettable Italian fine dining experience. Their lemon and butter veal is my personal favorite. Make a reservation because this place is very popular on the weekends, as their cuisine attracts people from all over. The restaurant is located in a historic 1871 building which undeniably adds to its charm and elegance.

Pollyanna Brewing
The Lemont location of Pollyanna brewing is a great place to come for a fresh and handcrafted beer. This brewery is extremely popular in the summer, and food trucks are often parked on the street in front. They have so many award winning beers that is is hard to pick your favorite. They also have some crazy flavors like a toasted marshmallow fun size!?
Bottles
Bottles is a very unique style of bar and you might be a little confused if it is your first time. Unlike a traditional bar, you walk up to their huge selection of cans and “bottles” and choose one. You pay at the register then enjoy their indoor and outdoor areas. They have pinball machines as well as karaoke events often.
One Eleven Martini Parlour
One Eleven has a much quieter and more chill vibe than many of the other places in downtown Lemont. Their drinks are handmade and great for sipping. Their crafty combinations of flavors like in the lavender lemondrop martini will make you come back for more. Stop by during happy hour for some great prices.
Local Coffee Shops
Folklore Coffee
Folklore is a newer addition to downtown Lemont at the time I am writing this blog. It is a very cozy shop with a definitive local feel. The sense of community in this place in unmatched. They offer unique specials often and the place is truly enchanting. Their website and social media are filled with stunning photography that will make need a coffee. Folklore is definitely here to stay!

Smokey Row Antiques
Smokey Row Antiques in Lemont is like stepping into a time capsule of cool stuff. It's this cozy spot in Lemont, Illinois, where you can find all sorts of old gems. From funky furniture to quirky knick-knacks, it's a fun place to hunt for hidden treasures and imagine the stories behind each piece.
Mabel’s Market
From their website: “Mabel's Market offers treasure seekers and casual shoppers a varied collection of vintage wares, MCM, modern and re-purposed furniture and home goods, as well as locally hand-crafted accessories. Perfect for gifts and finding something special for your home.” They have lots of interesting finds and they help organize large events in downtown Lemont!

Taste of Lemont
Taste of Lemont is an event that people look forward to all year. Its like a big food party that happens once a year in this awesome Illinois town. Picture this: local restaurants and food trucks lining the streets, dishing out their tastiest bites for everyone to try. From juicy BBQ to heavenly desserts, it's a feast for your taste buds. And as you wander around, grooving to live music and chatting with friends, you can't help but feel the awesome vibe of the community coming together to celebrate good food and good times. It's definitely a highlight on the Lemont calendar!
Sunset Soiree
If you live in Lemont you probably know that Thursday nights in downtown Lemont means Sunset Soiree. Every Thursday in summer, hundreds or more gather to listen to live bands on a big stage with LOUD music. Families and friends come together to relax, have a few drinks, and just enjoy the summer nights in Lemont. This is my absolute #1 favorite event in Lemont and I am eagerly waiting for it to start thus June!
